A Year in Review

It’s hard to believe it’s been a full year since we launched ThoughtSpot. We’ve learned a lot in the past year from our customers, our conversations with the press and analyst community, and from our employees.

It’s also been exciting to help define the next generation of modern business intelligence platforms. Anyone who saw the recent Gartner Magic Quadrant that came out this month knows that legacy BI vendors are losing ground as customers shift their technology budgets toward new modern BI platforms. These platforms are focused on making analytics easier for business people to use – not just IT. In order to meet today’s pace of business, non-technical decision makers need to be able to actually do their own analytics, not just consume pre-built reports and dashboards. Which is why it’s been a great year helping leading organizations across every industry make the transition to support an agile BI platform that puts data into the hands of every user.

Building a Modern BI Platform for Everyone

Today we’re excited to announce our year-end results. We’ve grown an astounding 810% year-over-year, acquired some amazing customers both in the US and internationally, launched several partnerships, and hired a team of rock stars who will lead us through our next phase of growth. We are also opening our first international office in London, and are kicking it off with a launch party at the Gartner BI Summit in just a few weeks.

The reason so many Fortune 500 brands across every industry are turning to ThoughtSpot is because our search interface makes it easy for non-technical business people to quickly analyze their company data with zero training. Similar to consumer search, employees are able to ask any question, and get back results across billions of rows of data. However unlike consumer search engines, ThoughtSpot’s analytical search engine actually calculates answers on-the-fly and leverages technology such as DataRank, PopCharts, and AutoJoins to help users build reports and dashboards based on the collective intelligence within their organization.

Unlocking Potential for Both Business People & BI Teams

It’s not just about the end user. BI teams have the potential to add enormous value to a company’s bottom line, but these valuable resources are tied up tweaking reports or building out aggregate tables and data cubes just to get basic answers to back to the business. Imagine the potential a business could unlock by freeing up these individuals to focus on the strategic work they were trained to do. This is precisely the value BI teams get when they enable the business users to do their own “fishing” with search-driven analytics.

Gearing Up for Another Year

Despite all these wins, we’re just getting started at ThoughtSpot. Our goal is to bring direct data access to 20 million knowledge workers across the globe by 2020. We’ve got a lot of work to do to keep up with our vision. But we consider ourselves extremely lucky to get the opportunity to work in such an exciting industry, where there is so much room to impact the lives of our customers. We can’t wait to see what the coming year has in store.
